Elementary & Jr. High Coach

Welcome Hayley Runnalls!  After being away from Fort McMurray for over a decade, Runnalls has found her way back home and ready to take on her new role with PEAK and as a teacher at École McTavish!

Runnalls played her elite Minor Hockey career in the Edmonton area and then played seasons with both Grant MacEwan University and the Sherwood Park Steele in the Junior A Female League where she won 3 Provincial championships!

Following her playing career, Runnalls transitioned into coaching where she spent most of her time with the NAX Academy Female U19 AAA program and the NCI U18 AA program.  She was selected to coach at various Hockey Alberta events, including the Alberta Winter Games and the Alberta Challenge.  Most recently, she led Team Alberta North to an undefeated tournament victory at the 2023 Arctic Winter Games, held right here in Wood Buffalo!

Runnals is also an active member of the Ball Hockey community.  Having competed in the Canadian Nationals on five occasions, she has claimed 2 gold medals and 3 bronze.  Her performance at the 2022 National Championships in Ontario earned her the ‘Tournament MVP Forward’ award.  This summer, in addition to participating in her own Nationals competition, Runnalls has been named Head Coach for Team Alberta U17 Male and will be taking the team to Newfoundland for Junior National Championships. She was also selected as an Assistant Coach for the U21 Canadian National Women’s Team, and will be attending the World Championships in the Czech Republic.

In 2021 Runnalls graduated with a Bachelor of Education, with distinction, from the University of Alberta. During this time she played a significant role in helping to establish a hockey program at "FreePlay for Kids," a non-profit sport organization in Edmonton that provides athletic opportunities to youth at-risk. She served as the inaugural Head Coach for the hockey program and supervised the "Junior Leadership Program," working closely in both roles with children aged 5-18.  Having spent the past two years teaching elementary school, Runnalls is thrilled to embark on a new chapter by transitioning into Junior High at École McTavish where she can combine her passions for hockey and teaching. This exciting opportunity allows her to channel her expertise and enthusiasm into creating a meaningful educational experience for students while incorporating the sport she loves.

Welcome to the PEAK family, Coach Runnalls!
