Jr. High Teacher (Ecole McTavish) & Hockey Coach (Jr. High)

Coach Hamilton was born & raised in Fort McMurray.  Throughout his childhood, he engaged in many different sports; however, hockey eventually emerged as his ultimate passion.  He played 9 years in the Fort McMurray Minor Hockey system then moved to Fort Saskatchewan to play in the AAA league for his last 4 years of Minor Hockey.  He then found his way back to his roots in Fort McMurray playing for the Jr. A Oil Barons, the team he grew up watching.  Following the Oil Barons, he embarked on a new venture moving to Cold Lake to play for the Ice where he was recognized as the Most Valuable Player.

Jason moved to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta to obtain his Bachelor of Secondary Education degree.  He graduated in April 2023 and is now teaching full time at École McTavish.  Coach Hamilton is excited to combine his passion for hockey with his commitment to education and have the chance to work with student athletes who share a similar passion for the sport of hockey and education.

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
