Head Hockey Coach

PEAK is excited to welcome Matt Liggett as the Head Coach for the PEAK Hockey Academy! Matt has joined the Oil Barons staff as the Skills Development Coach and Assistant Coach for the 2024-25 season.  Matt brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for the game, with a background spanning from youth hockey to collegiate play and into the realm of coaching.

Born and raised in Langley, BC, Matt Liggett began his hockey journey with the Langley Minor Hockey Association. His dedication and skill on the ice propelled him into Junior hockey, where he played for the Aldergrove Kodiaks, Swan Valley Stampeders, and Mission City Outlaws. Following his junior career, Matt pursued college hockey in the United States at Waldorf University, where he not only excelled on the ice but also completed a four-year degree in finance.

Matt began his coaching career in the 2020-2021 season, joining the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs U18AAA program as an assistant coach. His primary role was developing defensemen, a task in which he demonstrated success, consistently helping players elevate their game and advancing them to the next level. Under Matt’s coaching, the Chiefs concluded the 2023-24 season with an impressive 28-4-2-2 record, finishing second in the BCEHL standings and securing their second BC Elite Hockey League (BCEHL) title in three years.

Over the past three years, Matt has expanded his impact on the hockey community by running summer development ice times and camps in the Vancouver area. His commitment to nurturing young talent and his passion for the game has made him a respected figure in local hockey circles.

We are excited to welcome Matt to our PEAK coaching staff! We believe his extensive background in both playing and coaching, along with his dedication to player development, will make him a valuable asset to our PEAK Academy.
